<note>An English edition of Father Bialas's Im Kreuz ist Heil is very much to be welcomed, and not just by members of the Pasionist congregations. They indeed have already demonstrated their appreciation of the book by the large number of pre-publication orders which is not surprising. he is an internationally esteemed expert on Saint Paul of the Cross, on whom he has written several other well received books and numerous articles. It is of course to be expected that members of the Passionist congregations would have more than a passing interest in a book about their founder. Encouraged by the Church, all religious institutes have been aware, since Vatican II especially, of the need to assimilate and to some extent to re-interpret the spirit of their respective founders. Less widespread, perhaps, has been the awareness that in this process religious institutes have much to learn from each other, that they can learn both from their differences and from what they have in common.</note>
