<note>The goals of this Anthology is to give the English speaking reader a first impression of the contributions made by phenomenology to the vast domain of the philosophy of the natural sciences. In order to avoid misunderstanding about what is involved in this aim, a brief explanation seems to be in order. Over the past forty years the term phenomenology has been used to refer to a great variety of basic philosophical conceptions. Although almost all contemporary phenomenologists claim that they take their point of departure from Husserl's phenomenology it is nonetheless very difficult to specify the basic philosophical views which these phenomenologists share.</note>
