<note>Masterworks of Ming and Qing Painting from the Forbidden City is the first exhibitoan of extremely fine, ancient Chinese paintings to come to the United States from the people's Republic of Cina, and it does so on the tenth anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is a very appropriate way to celebrate that important event. The exhibition consists of seventy-six painting of which fifty-fie are hanging scrolls, sixteen are handscrolls, and five are albums. Fifty-three of the paintings were done on paper and twenty-three on silk. The first thirty-three paintings are of the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644 ) while the remaining forty-three are of the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911 and pronounced Ching).</note>
