This book restates and defends the ancient thesis that man is a piece of matter, that all his mental states are physical states, and all his psychological properties are physical properties. It does this in a metaphysical framework which a accommodates talk of the identity and diversity of such 'virtual entities' as states and properties without being committed to their actual existence.
