A Miraculous Star in the East: Charbel Makhlouf (The Lebanese Maronite Monk of Annaya)
A biography chronicling the life of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, a Maronite Catholic monk and hermit from Lebanon. The book highlights his spiritual journey, extreme asceticism, and the miracles attributed to him. It also chronicles the childhood of Charbel (born Youssef Antoun Makhlouf), who was raised in a poor shepherd family in the Bekaa Kafra, Lebanon. From an early age, he had a strong desire to live a life of solitude and dedicate himself entirely to God. This is followed by a discussion of Saint Charbel Makhlouf's spiritual formation within the Lebanese Maronite Order. For decades, he was known for his extraordinary dedication to prayer, fasting, and renunciation, both at the Monastery of Saint Maron and during his solitary ascetic life. The book documents his death on Christmas Eve, 1898, while celebrating Mass. The story continues with the mysterious light phenomenon seen above his tomb and the healings and miracles that occurred through his intercession after his death. This work deeply records how a very humble monk transformed into one of the most revered Middle Eastern holy figures worldwide.
