<note>A memoir written by Father Robert W. Greene, an American Maryknoll missionary, documenting his harrowing experiences and faith under the communist regime in China. Father Greene was stationed in the village of Tung-an in southern China. After the Communist takeover in 1950, he was placed under house arrest. He was only allowed out for 20 minutes every three days to buy food. In early 1952, he was arrested on charges of banditry. For days, he was subjected to harsh interrogation, harassment, and relentless torture. During a mock trial under the Communist regime, he was convicted and sentenced to death by beheading. This sentence was later commuted by Mao Zedong to expulsion from China. Before crossing the border and being exiled to Hong Kong, he was paraded around China, subjected to humiliation and ridicule. The word 'Calvary' refers to the suffering he endured to defend his priesthood and protect the Eucharist amidst extreme religious persecution.</note>
