The Jerusalem Bible's New Testament is divided into several main sections: (a) The four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John recount the life, ministry, miracles, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They also convey the central messages of the Kingdom of God and the meaning of His sacrifice; (b) The Acts of the Apostles discusses the birth of the early Church, the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and how the apostles spread Christianity throughout the ancient world; (c) The Epistles (from the Pauline Epistles to the General Epistles) are a collection of pastoral letters from the apostles Paul, Peter, John, and James. They provide spiritual guidance, theology, correction, and encouragement for the early churches; and (d) the Book of Revelation (Apokalips) as a prophetic book containing visions of the end of time, God's final victory over evil, and the promise of a new heaven and earth.
