<note>Rev. E. J. Cuskelly, a member of the Missionaries of the Sacred, was ordained to priesthood in Australia, his native land. Following this, he continued his studies in Rome at the Gregorian University, where he obtained his doctorate in 1952. He was then appointed professor of Dogmatic and Ascetical Theology at Sacred Heart Seminary in Croydon, Victoria, where he has remained except for two years on the staff of the Apostolic Delegation in Sydney. Fr. Cuskelly’s first book A Summa of the Spiritual Life won great acclaim all over the world. The author’s preoccupation is to show how all points of doctrine manifest the kindness of God. He emphasizes throughout that God is Love. Everything hinges on that reality and salvation can only be seen truly and in harmony as His Love at work in the world. Fr. Cuskelly succeeds remarkably in relating theology to life as he fulfils his two-fold purpose in writing : to give the average reader a ‘way-in’ to the discovery of God and His plan of salvation, and secondly, to provide theologians and teachers a ‘way-out’ from their fuller but more speculative and technical theological knowledge.</note>
