St. Luke Theologian of Redemptive History
An in-depth theological study of Luke's theology in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. The author analyzes how Luke constructs the Gospel narrative as a continuous redemptive history (Heilsgeschichte). He also highlights the dialectical structure in Luke's work, where Luke's theology bridges the tension between eschatology (the end times) and human history. The book discusses how Luke presents Jesus Christ as the center of salvation history, connecting the Old Testament era with the Church era. Furthermore, the author also examines how Luke strives to be relevant to the Christian community worldwide through his theology, as well as the role of the Holy Spirit and the Church in the continuation of this work of salvation. In contrast to Hans Conzelmann, who emphasizes the separateness of time (a compartmentalized salvation history), Flender sees a more dynamic continuity in this history. This book is considered a classic work in the academic study of the theology of Luke's Gospel.
