<note>Understanding the origin, meaning, and use of the term 'Son of Man' is essential if the Gospels are to be interpreted intelligently, but no other phrase has in recent years generated so much scholarly debate and disagreement. Dr. Hooker studies the term and the concepts associated with it in the Old Testament, in I Enoch, and in other intertestamental literature, and then examines its occurrence in Mark's Gospel within the context of the Gospel as a whole, finding a coherent pattern throughout, with each occurrence having its own relevance. In doing so, this book offers a challenge to the current interpretative trends recently reinforced by the studies of A.J.B. Higgins and H.E. Tödt, but its conclusions are reached without conservative bias, and by a thorough study of the available evidence. This book is essential for New Testament studies.</note>
