She was active in church politics, promoted peace, and played a key role in the return of the Pope from Avignon to Rome. Known for her extreme fasting and her work, the Dialogues, she is recognized as a Doctor of the Church. She experienced intense visions, including a mystical marriage with Jesus in 1366, during which she received a ring. She also received the stigmata (wounds of Christ), which were invisible during her lifetime, at her request. She died in Rome on April 29, 1380, at the age of 33 after suffering an illness/stroke.
