Our Lady of Lourdes: The History of the Miraculous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes: The History of the Miraculous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes (1872) by Henry Lasserre is a detailed historical documentary of the apparitions of Our Lady to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France, in 1858. Lasserre presents a detailed narrative of 18 apparitions of a Lady (the Virgin Mary) to Bernadette Soubirous, a poor 14-year-old peasant girl, in the grotto of Massabielle, outside the town of Lourdes. Lasserre, who claimed his eyes were healed by using Lourdes water, takes an investigative approach to the facts, eyewitness accounts, and healing reports. The book is considered a landmark classic because it provides an in-depth contemporary account of the Lourdes phenomenon, which was finally officially recognized by the Catholic Church in 1862.
