Guide for Living: An Approved Selection of Letters and Addresses of His Holiness Pope Pius XII

First edition of Guide for Living, a posthumous introduction to the moral teachings and guidance of Pope Pius XII. Illustrated with a luminous frontispiece portrait of the Pope at prayer and three additional photographs. With the bookplate of noted American psychologists, Vivian and Henry Guze (along with Henry's signature). Elected in 1939, Eugenio Pacelli, one of the greatest and most beloved of all who have occupied the Chair of Peter, was Pontiff for nearly two decades as the global dimensions of the modern Papacy took shape in the middle of the twentieth century. Arranged by Maurice Quinlan, with his lengthy Introduction: This book is an attempt to indicate how His Holiness, 'the living Peter,' accomplished his mission as the supreme spiritual teacher of all peoples. Published shortly after the Pope's death in October 1958, the book is divided into five sections (with Quinlan's brief prefatory note for each part): Part One. The Family, Part Two. War and Peace, Part Three. The Church and Science, Part Four. Letters for Laymen, Part Five The Road to Christ. Approbations.
