Mother Agnes of Jesus, O.C.D.
Mother Agnes of Jesus (Pauline Martin) was the older sister and spiritual director of Saint Therese of Lisieux. She played a key role in editing and publishing her sister's autobiography, The Story of a Soul, which documents the spirituality of the 'Little Way'. As Mother Superior of the Carmelite Monastery of Lisieux, she urged Saint Therese to write down her childhood memories and spiritual experiences. After Therese's death in 1897, Mother Agnes edited the manuscript, which became the most popular spiritual book in the Catholic world. The works edited by Mother Agnes emphasized complete trust in God's love, simplicity, and the sanctification of daily life. Mother Agnes of Jesus (1861-1951) ensured that the spiritual legacy of Therese's 'Little Way' spread throughout the world.
