Born Perrine Éluère on October 4, 1816, in Rennes, Brittany, France, she professed the Discalced Carmelite vows under the name Sister Marie de Saint-Pierre et de la Sainte Famille on June 8, 1841. While in the convent, Sr. Marie received a series of private revelations from Jesus. Jesus revealed that the sins of blasphemy and profanation of Sunday deeply offended Him. Sr. Marie died on July 8, 1848, of tuberculosis, at the age of 31, before the devotion was officially approved by the Vatican (it was finally approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1885).
