Angela Merici and the Company of St. Ursula (Vol. I): According to the Historical Documents
Angela Merici founded the Company of Saint Ursula in 1535 in Brescia, Italy, as a revolutionary form of religious life for women at the time. Angela Merici (1474–1540) was inspired by a deep conviction and a vision to empower women through education and service within the community, rather than within the walls of a traditional convent. Angela Merici is remembered as a visionary spiritual leader, peacemaker, and founder of the first women's teaching order in the Catholic Church.
