This narration of the disciple whom Jesus loved has profound exegetical beauties. It contains amazingly and mysteriously deep theology. Neither exegesis nor theology is professionally intended in these pages. But each is drawn upon, and often at length, in order to gather thoughts which will serve for the growth of the life of grace in our souls and for the increase and deepening of our union with Christ. In a new context they served to lay stress on a new suggestion. In dealing with these there has been an attempt to catch the emphases of Christ.
