The Church and Cultures: An Applied Anthropology for the Religious Worker
The Church and Culture is a practical book for the modern religious worker concerned with the proper relationship between the ways of the Church and of man. It introduces the non-anthropologist to the wealth of scientific knowledge available and directly useful for effective action across cultures and subcultures, at home or abroad. The author has a unique theoretical and practical background which qualifies him to write with authority on his subject. His basic thesis is that for the apostle of today to rely on anything less than a Science of Man would be as foolish as to rely on less than a Science of Medicine. His basic assumption is that, no matter what knowledge or skill the Church may wish to apply in carrying out her social and religious mission, she will have to apply that knowledge and skill with the actual ways and values of the particular time and place always in view.
