The author's achievement in this book is to develop an approach to reflection and prayer that does not ask the layman to build a little Antechapel in his mind into which he must retreat before he can speak to God. Prayer emerges as an honest stance before God and e readiness to let him see our face, which bears on it the marks of everything we have been and done throughout our lives.
