Frederic Ozanam was a French academic, lawyer, and writer best known for founding the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSV) in 1833. He was a servant of the poor and fought for social justice, founding the SSV with his colleagues to help those in need in Paris. Ozanam later became a professor at the University of Paris (Sorbonne), and his life was filled with service and dedication to the weak. Ozanam was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1997 in Paris, an event attended by young people from around the world. His Feast Day is celebrated on September 9th.
