In fact, every Catholic knows he is in the Church by the grace of God. But there is a human experience of the Faith, mind and will and emotions are not simply passive. It is this experience, different for everyone, that the writers of these essays have tried to set down in words. Without exception the writers are dissatisfied with what they have managed to get said. The experience of the Faith is so rich and touches intimately so many elements in us, that any statement seems meagre, almost unbearably so.
