For it was intimated that the telling of these particulars could give rise to ridicule, to antagonism, to emotionalism and/or to dismay; that such a portrayal of St. Mary Magdalen de'Pazzi could scarcely be popular. On the other hand, there is no reason to doubt these details; and the fact stands out that all who have read the manuscript have felt its impact. A life as lofty as that of St. Mary Magdalen de'Pazzi is not to be judged by average standards, parts of it will naturally appear strange and difficult to understand, especially by those who meet a saint like her for the first time. But those who know or wish to know something of the ways of the sirit not be discourages by these seeming exaggerations. An once the story has been read throughout, most of these will have lost their strangeness and St. Mary Magdalen will stand revealed in all her actually and holiness.
