Why Priests?
This is on attempt by one of the world's leading theologians to unswervingly Christian way a question that each year attracts greater urgency and that must be of major concern to every thinking Christian. It is not simply a question of settling the crisis of identity that has affected such a significant number of the world's clergy, but of mapping out in a positive way the answers to a number of other related problems, not least among them being the relationship between the official priesthood of all believers. Hans Kung, priest, theologian, and so often the calmly authoritative spokesman on behalf of large sections of the Church unhappy about inactivity in Rome regarding these issues, has offered a thorough, sensitive, and convincing statement of the current problems, and of the possible answers as he sees them now in the light of the gospel, of historical development, and of the present situation.
