<note>Quartet in Heaven is biography study of four women who lived for apart in place and time, yet come together in Sainthood. In the lives of Catherine of Genoa, Cornelia Connelly, Rose of Lima and Therese of Lisieux Sheila Kaye-Smith has found a living and human basis of sanctity. The background of her subjects ranges from Medieval Italy to the France of the nineties, from the South America of the Conquistadores to the England of Queen Victoria. St. Catherine made for herself out of an unhappy marriage a new life of heroic devotion to the sick and dying in the plague-stricken city of Genoa; while Cornelia Connelly, pioneer of Catholic education for girls in England, was able to turn to the greater glory of God a domestic tragedy far more terrible than that of St. Catherine, St. Rose, living in a tiny cell in her father's garden and working for the support of her poverty-stricken family was nevertheless the uncrowned queen of a city.</note>
