This collection of prayers from the ancient Eucharistic liturgies of the Church, is intended to remind modern Christian how rich is the background, and how profound and far-reaching are the spiritual implications of our central act of worship. About one-third of its contents has already appeared in my book The Mystery of Sacrifice, and it was because the prayers there printed found so many friends who asked for more of the same kind, that I decided to make a larger collection. Many of the new prayers have not appeared in English before, and the translations of all have been carefully revised.
