<note>Catharine Macaulay (Sawbridge) (1731-1791) was a famous English historian and political writer. She is known as the first female historian in England and the only female historian published in the world during her lifetime. She was also a radical political activist who supported the independence of the American colonies. Macaulay wrote her major work, 'A History of England', in eight volumes, which promoted a radical political agenda. She is also known for her role in supporting John Wilkes and the Real Whigs.</note>
