The problem raised by the discrepancy between the synoptic gospels treatment of Jesus and that of the fourth gospel has bewildered readers of the New Testament from the Patristic era to the present. The Gospel of St John is a distinctive interpretation of the words and deeds of Jesus written from a highly personal point of view.
