New Approaches to the Eucharist
The Eucharist is the life of the People of God. And, unlike many other theological questions, any discussion which affects our approach to the mystery is of immediate and vital concern to all Christians. Since World War II, theologians have devoted much research to a reappraisal of the theology of the Eucharist. Aware of the theological trends – and distributed by some – Pope Paul issued Mysterium Fidei in September 1965. He did not seek to cut off discussion; rather he re-stated some essential points and set the course for future investigation. In this context, New Approaches to the Eucharist enables us to grasp the roots of the present eucharistic discussion. More importantly, it invites us to view the mystery in its total perspective; and, by so doing, to appreciate the theological, liturgical and ecumenical dimensions of the question.
