A Guide to Reading the Bible (2)
These first New Testament lessons are devoted to the 'Mystery of Jesus', a title which is designed to underscore the meaning and consequences of the words and work of Christ for the whole of human history. Our study begins with the earliest apostolic preaching as St. Luke preserves it for us in the Book of Acts of the Apostles and closes with St. John's proclamation that the 'Mystery of Jesus' was not confined to a few brief years at the beginning of our era, but that the Redeemer is abidingly present with the faithful in every generation and that the work of Redemption continues in his Church.
