The Mystical State: Its Nature and Phases
Since the publication of the first edition of L'Etat Mystique (April 1903 ), mystical questions have continued to rouse great interest among Catholic writers. But agreement has not yet been reached on the fundamental principles of this science, at once so important and so practical. It is true that, thanks to a deeper study of the great masters, the true doctrine gains ground steadily. Those who claim that mystical graces are a kind of extrinsic growth, not necessary to sanctification and entirely extraordinary in character, necessitating an exceptional and very rare vocation, are every year less numerous.
