No Absent God: The Relations Between God and the Self
Father D'Arcy suggests that if God is dead, man must also die. He argues that the relationship of man to God is so close that when belief in God fades, belief in man also disappears. Hence the predicament of modern man who does not know who he is or what his life signifies. Father D'Arcy documents the death of man as expressed in the writings of modern philosopher, playwrights, poets and novelists. He exposes the masks and myths invented to animate the corpse. By restoring a deep personal relation to God, man can recover his humanity and again find purpose in life.
