The Word in History: The St. Xavier Symposium
The essays which make up this book were originally delivered as papers at a symposium, the purpose of which was to ask a question: What are the principal theological problems facing the Church at the present time? The question was based on a number of premises, the first being that, in general, progress begins with the realization that there is a problem. Failure to see a serious problem where it exists can quickly lead to disaster. This volume then must be considered, not as a presentation of ready-made solutions, but as an inquiry: Are we asking the right questions? Where are our principal difficulties?
