Michelangelo's name is synonymous with monumental achievement in the arts. Scholars and art lovers are still awed when they think of the Italian master lying flat on his back for the better part of three years while painting the majestic ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, or carving the gigantic marble blocks into such statues as David and Moses.
