It has become a classic issue on which each new generation of biblical scholars seems constrained to test its mettle. In the first place, there are so many accounts of Sennacherib's invasion and they are given in such detail within the bible that event has assumed an importance by its very frequency. Secondly, the history of the Assyrian invasion is recorded also in the annals of Sennacherib which have been preserved in various editions and copies.
