The actuality of Communism confronts the world with a number of dilemmas. Can the material life of man be organised and his spiritual existence withal remain unimpaired? Is an economic and social transformation sufficient to deliver human personality from all forms of servitude? Is the Kingdom of God, so to speak, of this world or some other? Communism, a sign of contradiction in our midst, insists that the problems which it raises shall be considered with absolute lucidity, that the new man and the new world which it professes to create be contemplated without dismay or shuddering abhorrence.
