St. Gerard is Joseph Landi, another man of than ordinary holiness and culture. As a clerical student of the diocese of Salerno, he entered the young Congregation in the same year as Tannoia and died in it in 1797. Besides taking part in the same general chapter of 1764 he filled the offices of rector and novice master. One of his novices - Clement Hofbauer was eventually canonised. Landi was, moreover, the official chronicler of his Institute, and his work bears the mark of uncommon industry and thoroughness.
