Father Arnold Janssen: A Modern Pioneer in Mission Work
Since the war, which resulted in the loss of the German colonial possessions, several factors have combined to bring the work of the society into prominence and give it a more international character. The direction of the Missionary Museum at the Lateran has been given to Dr. Schmidt, SVD already distinguished as the founder and first editor of the ethnological review, Anthropos. The publications of Dr. Schmidt, Father Schebesta, SVD, and others have been translated and found favour in learned circles. The Catholic University of Peking has been staffed by the Society of the Divine Word, and a mission in Central India has been established under its care. In order to train English-speaking members a college has been opened at Hadzor, Droitwich, in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
