This volume contains the twelve essays which I had contributed to the series we had entitled Christliche Besinnung translatable, approximately, as Pondering the Christian Faith. These essays were not planned as interrelated parts of a larger scheme. Each grew spontaneously out of the urgent questions asked by people in spiritual stress, and is the answer given to hard-pressed Christians in a time of acute physical and spiritual threat.
