Contemporary Prayers consisted of original prayers in contemporary idiom, together with full orders for the sacraments and certain other ordinances of the church. We were chiefly concerned to explore various experimental ways of writings prayers, and although we hoped the result would provide leaders of worship with a working manual, there were gaps and inadequacies of which users have no doubt long been aware. We decided that this book should have a more deliberate structure and should provide complete sets of prayers for services.
