In studying the problem of biblical inspiration one is constantly moving between two poles; the readily knowable, the historical process of the formation of the Bible and the far less readily knowable, the action of the spirit. The historian-exegete proceeds pragmatically, ever conscious of the supernatural dimension. He realizes that biblical inspiration is on-going process right up to the completion of the canon.
