The Documents of Vatican II

The Documents of the Second Vatican Council include 16 major documents (4 Constitutions, 9 Decrees, 3 Statements) aimed at renewing the Catholic Church for dialogue with the modern world, focusing on the restoration of the role of the Gospel, a new understanding of the Church as the People of God (Lumen Gentium), a reform of the liturgy to make it more participatory, the role of social media (Inter Mirifica), and a renewal of the episcopal role (Christus Dominus). The Council defined the Church as a universal communion, emphasized the task of mission, and opened itself to ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. In short, the Documents of Vatican II are a roadmap for a modern, more participatory, missionary Church engaged in dialogue with the world, with Christ as the Light of the World at its core.
