<note>This textbook is for pharmacists who wish to improve their commitment to helping people. Pharmacy is more than a scientific discipline, it is a healing art, and like any healing art requires attention on the part of its practitioners to the communication process. A Pharmacists effectiveness as a practitioner flows from his or her effectiveness in communication. The pharmacist has a professional, as a drug expert, to counsel patient concerning their medications, especially since he or she is the last professional a patient sees before initiating drug therapy. The initiative for this book started with an awareness of the nationwide need for a practical learning resource aimed at helping students and practitioners improve communication skills in the practice setting. A search of the pharmacy literature demonstrated that pharmacists knew what to communicate, why they should do it, but little on how to improve their learned communication behavior.</note>
