The claim is that this book represents something new in Lucan studies, for it asserts that Luke has one dominant theme and subordinates his other theological concerns to that theme. It also shows how Luke achieves this synthesis. This is not to say that much that is in this book has not been pointed to by other scholars, but that the present synthesis explains in greater detail and makes better sense of all the evidence. The book is not directed only to the college theology student but to students and scholars of Luke's thought.
