<note>We have asked scholars from various fields, as well as civic leaders clergy, and students, to respond critically to early drafts of The Good Society-even more than we did in composing Habits of the Heart. Since well over a hundred people read parts of the manuscripts and discussed it with us, it is impossible to mention all their names, but we are most grateful for their assistance and their thoughtful criticism. We also learned a great deal, as we did with Habits, from those we interviewed during our research for the book. We take responsibility for what we have written; but whatever there is of value in it comes out of and contributes to a continuation of an ongoing conversation among fellow citizens.</note>
