St. Athanasius on the Incarnation: The Treatise de Incarnatione Verbi Dei
In this book, Athanasius answers the fundamental question: Why did God have to become human to save the world? The Divine Dilemma: Humans were created in the image of God, but fell into sin, which brought the pure consequence of death and corruption (existential corruption). God's just nature cannot allow His word to be violated (that sin brings death), but God's love and goodness also cannot allow His creation to be destroyed so easily.
