The first three chapters were given as the Hopkins Lectures at the First Methodist Church, Denton, Texas, in February 1984. Together these chapters are concerned with the central theme of the relationship of spirituality and ministry. They move from a consideration of the foundations of spirituality through a discussion of the growing ministry of spiritual direction, and end with reflections on spirituality in practice based upon the lives and witness of four priests.
