In September 1993 the Parliament of the World's Religions took a historic step forward by approving an initial Declaration Toward a Global Ethic. Representatives of the world's religions great and small and of those with no religion signed and presented a statement of minimal ethic on which all sould agree. This book present the text of the Declaration which had been drafted after a thorough process of interreligious and international consultation by Hans Kung with a commentary explaining how it came to take its present form and what it sets out to do.
