Theology and the Church: A Response to Cardinal Ratzinger and a Warning to the Whole Church
What was feared in Latin America a few years ago has taken place. Six years ago, the Puebla Conference met in a cautions atmosphere: everything seemed to indicate that its participants were preparing a condemnation of that theological current which Latin America was called the theology of liberation. However, that did not happen at Puebla. A compromise document emerged from the Third General Conference of Latin America Bishops. But today, a new reading of that document in light of the Instruction on the Theology of Liberation which was published by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on August 6, 1984will show that the principal elements for its condemnation were already present in the Puebla document.
