The warmth of the welcome given to the first volume of this collected edition of Fr Rahner's profound and sometimes disturbing essays and articles surprised even the publisher, as also did the wide range of sources both Catholic and Protestant from which the welcome came. As the Viennese journal Die Seelsorger pithily put it, in general Rahner's writings begin from the point where other people leave off. There could be no more expressive tribute to the originality and penetration of the author thought.
