This book is entitled Folklore Around the Asmat Community. Why folklore and why Asmat? In this book each of these two themes has its own individual attraction. It is not easy to define the concept of folklore as it is so broad and complex a subject. The emphases given to various aspect of any folklore will strongly influence the way in which folklore researchers (folklorists) define just what folklore is.
